Why can a game scoreboard be live while its betting market is unavailable?

A scoreboard status and a sportsbook price answer different questions. The scoreboard can report that a game is in progress while the exact market has no current price, an unresolved selection or no matching offer at the chosen book. Treat event state and market availability as separate checks.

The scoreboard describes the event

A game-status signal describes whether the event is scheduled, in progress, finished, postponed or otherwise reported by the scoreboard. BSD’s event-state model also records which source established the displayed status. That information is about the game, not every wager market attached to it.

A market needs its own current offer

A particular market depends on a matching event, book, selection and current price. A game can be marked started while a selected market has no current main price or its selection identity cannot be resolved. A live score is not proof that a price is selectable.

Compare the event and the exact market separately

Check that the score belongs to the same event, then read the market status for the specific selection and sportsbook. If the market is unavailable, do not substitute the scoreboard state for a price or assume the book will accept the selection.

Hypothetical example: game in progress, no matching quote

Imagine a fictional scoreboard reports a game in progress while a reader’s selected market has no current matching price at the chosen book. The game-state label can remain live even though that particular quote is unavailable. The example contains no live game, current market or price claim.

Related questions

Does a live scoreboard mean every market is open?

No. Event status and the availability of a particular market and price are separate.

What should I compare first?

Confirm the event identity, then check the specific selection, sportsbook and current price status.

Does BSD’s game status confirm a sportsbook accepted a bet?

No. A game-status signal is not a sportsbook acceptance or placement receipt.
