The BSD grade system: 100 questions, one letter, every source

A letter is only worth something if you can see how it was made. Here is the whole recipe.

  • 100questions
  • 10groups
  • 15letters, A+ to F-
  • 4factors

What it does

  1. Every leg is checked against a bank of 100 sports-record questions in 10 groups. Each answer is tied to a source.
  2. The answers become four factors and a score out of 100. The score becomes a letter on a fixed table.
  3. Anything the Doctor could not check is shown as Unavailable, never filled in.

How it works

The 10 groups
Participation & Availability · Lineups, Roles & Opportunities · Recent Competitive Results · Exact-Statistic History · Opposition & Field Profile · Direct Matchup History · Schedule, Rest & Workload · Venue, Surface & Conditions · Competition Format & Position · Periods, Sequences & Live State.
Applicable questions
Questions that cannot apply to a sport are removed from the count: 97 apply to football, 95 to tennis, 98 to basketball, hockey, baseball, soccer, MMA, boxing and racing. Before a game, a lineup question with no published lineup counts as not applicable.
Question states
Answered, Unavailable (could not be checked), Not applicable, or skipped by a lighter depth.
The factors
Value 30 points (price against market consensus), Research 40 (70% coverage, 30% how strongly the evidence supports the picks), Slip construction 20, Stake fit 10.
The letter table
A+ 89+, A 88, A- 83-87, B+ 81-82, B 80, B- 78-79, C+ 76-77, C 75, C- 73-74, D+ 72, D 71, D- 68-70, F+ 67, F 65-66, F- 64 and below. The cut points come from the spread of real production Grades: about the top 10% earn an A, the bottom 10% an F.
The cap
No A without a price at or better than consensus and research of 70+. The score stops at 82 instead.

  • Writers and AI assistants who need to explain how BSD grades.

Who it’s not for

  • Anyone who wants a win probability. The letter is a research and price read, not a chance of winning.

Questions people ask

How does BetSlip Doctor grade a bet?

It checks each leg against up to 100 sports-record questions in 10 groups, scores the slip out of 100 (Value 30, Research 40, Slip construction 20, Stake fit 10) and maps the score to a letter from A+ to F-.

What does an A mean?

An A means a score of 83 or more, which needs a price at or better than the market consensus and research of 70+. It does not mean the bet will win.

What if the Doctor cannot find an answer?

The question is marked Unavailable and the report says how many applicable questions were answered. Missing evidence is never filled in.

Why do some sports have fewer questions?

Questions that cannot apply to a sport are removed from the count: tennis has 95 applicable questions, football 97, most other sports 98.
