Why should an event field count include the entry list's status and time?
An event field count is a snapshot of a particular entry list, not a timeless number. The list may be provisional or confirmed, and its count can change as the published status changes. State which exact event the list covers, whether the entries are provisional or confirmed, and when the source was checked. Without that context, readers cannot tell whether the count is current, complete, or still subject to change.

Provisional and confirmed lists mean different things
A provisional count reports the list as published at that stage; it does not guarantee that every entry will remain. A confirmed list is a later status only when the official source labels it that way. Do not silently combine the two or describe a provisional count as final.
- Name the exact event and the source of the entry list.
- Preserve the published status, such as provisional or confirmed.
- Record the capture time beside the count.
Explain what the count includes
A number is easier to interpret when the underlying participant list is available or its completeness is stated. If the source covers only selected entrants or a named roster subset, call that out. A count from an incomplete list should not be presented as the full event field.
Do not reuse a stale count as current
Entry status and field size can change between captures. If you cannot verify a newer official list, label the older count with its time or mark current field size unavailable. This guide does not claim that a live entry list is available for every event.
Hypothetical example: two field counts, two snapshots
A fictional event ledger records a provisional entry list with 16 participants at 10:00, then a confirmed list with 14 participants at 16:00. The useful record preserves both timestamps and statuses rather than calling 16 the final field or silently replacing the earlier snapshot. These invented counts and times do not describe a real event or current entry list.

Can I report a provisional field count as confirmed?
No. Keep the provisional label and capture time unless the official source later confirms a different list.
