Why should an open ticket not be counted as a settled result?
An open ticket is still pending. BSD represents it as open without a settled outcome; manual open records also cannot carry a settlement time, realized result or cash return. Keep it separate from completed results until a settled state and supported outcome are recorded.

Open describes an unfinished record state
An open record tells you that a result has not yet been recorded as settled in that history entry. It should not be treated as a win, loss, push or other final outcome simply because the event has begun or time has passed.
For imported history, a source ticket marked pending maps to open with no outcome. For a manual record, BSD's input rules disallow an outcome, settlement time, realized profit and cash return while its status is open. That prevents a pending entry from masquerading as a finished result.
Use the record's state, not a guessed timeline
The key distinction is between placement and settlement. A placed ticket may remain open in history; the record does not become settled merely because its scheduled event has passed. The available source may update later, or the bettor may enter a manual result, but the history record should reflect evidence actually present.
Even a settled label does not guarantee every detail is available. An import can lack an exact settlement time, a net result or other fields. Check the record's outcome and limitations rather than filling gaps from an assumed sportsbook rule.
Keep pending exposure out of completed-outcome comparisons
When you review your past outcomes, compare settled records with settled records. An open item has no final outcome to compare, and its eventual result could differ from any expectation while it is pending.
This is an interpretation rule for reviewing history, not a claim about every chart or report's calculation. If a displayed total appears to include an open item, check the record state and the definition of that total before drawing a conclusion.
Hypothetical status-only timeline
At one point in a record's timeline, its status is open and its outcome is absent. Later, the source or user may record it as settled with an outcome. Until that later state is actually recorded, the first entry remains pending and should not be counted as a settled win or loss. This example supplies no sport, selection, odds, date, settlement or customer result.
Related questions
Does an open ticket become settled automatically when the event ends?
The history source does not establish that from elapsed time alone. The record is open until its source or manual entry contains a settled state; check the actual record and its limitations.
Can an open manual record already contain its final return?
BSD's manual-record validation rejects an open entry that includes a settled outcome, settlement time, realized profit or cash return. A later correction must reflect the actual record state.
