Why should a neutral-site designation not be inferred from the order teams are listed?

Because the order teams appear in a fixture is not the competition’s official designation. Use the organizer’s home, away, or neutral field when one exists; otherwise don’t infer neutral status from display order.

The first name is not proof of home status

A schedule may list one participant before another for display or record-keeping reasons. That order does not, by itself, say who is officially home, who is away, or whether the event is neutral.

The source question asks for the official designation if that competition uses one. Keep the organizer’s label attached to the event instead of reconstructing it from the listing.

Preserve neutral-site status

A neutral designation is meaningful only when it is assigned by the relevant competition or organizer. Do not infer neutrality because a venue seems unfamiliar, because neither participant is first in a familiar pattern, or because the fixture order looks unusual.

If the organizer has no such field or the source does not state it, leave the designation unresolved. A venue location and a home/away/neutral designation are related but separate pieces of evidence.

Do not turn ordering into a fact

When summarizing the event, cite the source field that establishes its designation. If you only have a displayed pairing, report the pairing and mark the designation unknown. This method does not claim every competition publishes home, away, or neutral labels.

Hypothetical fixture listing

In a fictional schedule, Competitor A appears before Competitor B. That ordering alone does not establish a neutral site or identify a home side. If the organizer’s event record labels the fixture neutral, preserve that field; if not, do not guess.

Does the first listed team always count as home?

Not from listing order alone. Use the competition’s official event designation when available.

Does an unfamiliar venue prove the event is neutral?

No. Venue familiarity is not the organizer’s designation. Keep neutral status unknown unless the source states it.
