What can I conclude if a message has no confirmed read status?

If a message has no confirmed read status, treat that status as unknown. You cannot conclude that the recipient read it, did not read it, or chose to ignore it. The recorded private-message contract deliberately does not expose a readAt value, and a pending request is not proof of delivery. Do not invent a read receipt from a message appearing in your own conversation view.

No confirmed status does not tell you what the recipient saw

A message visible in your own thread confirms only what your current view shows. Without an explicit supported read status, it does not prove that the recipient opened or saw the message.

It also does not prove the recipient ignored it. No status is simply not enough evidence to infer either outcome.

The recorded message view does not provide readAt

The canonical private-message view deliberately omits sender account identity and readAt. Do not treat a generic message schema or a missing field as a confirmed read-receipt feature.

A request receipt that is pending moderation is also not proof of delivery or reading.

Wait for a response without assigning intent

If the conversation has no confirmed status, avoid accusing or pressuring the recipient based on an assumed read. Use the current message result the product actually provides.

The backend source does not establish a universal read indicator, notification delivery, or response deadline.

Hypothetical: a message has no read indicator

Imagine a sender sees a message in the sender's own conversation but no confirmed read status. The sender cannot tell from that view whether the recipient opened it, missed it, or has not received it. The sender treats the status as unknown rather than assuming intent.

Does no read status mean the recipient ignored me?

No. The absence of a confirmed read status does not establish whether the recipient saw or ignored the message.

Does my message appearing in the thread prove it was read?

No. The sender's own thread view is not a confirmed recipient read receipt. The recorded private-message contract omits readAt.
