What should I check before leaving a BSD free club?

Check that you opened the intended free club and that you are using its ordinary-member leave action. Confirming leave removes your member access to that club's private posts. If the result is still being checked, those posts stay hidden while BSD resolves your membership. A later rejoin depends on the club and your account remaining eligible; it is not guaranteed.

For Ordinary members considering leaving an active free BSD club · Updated

Check the club and your current membership first

Open the club from Clubs inside Tail where that entry is available. Read its name and current free-club status so you know which membership you are changing. Use the current signed-in account associated with that membership.

This walkthrough covers an ordinary member of an active free club. Club owners and staff have role-based access managed separately; the ordinary free-membership action does not remove those roles. If you are an owner, admin or moderator, do not assume a member leave control is the way to give up that role.

Read the confirmation before leaving

For an eligible ordinary member, choose Leave club. The confirmation warns that private posts will disappear after you confirm. Choose Confirm leave club only when that is the membership change you intend. You can use Cancel at the confirmation step if you want to keep the membership.

BSD checks the current membership before applying the change and reads it back afterward. A tap alone is not a confirmed result. Follow the actual membership status shown after the action instead of using an old club screen as proof that access still exists.

  • Open the intended free club with the right signed-in account.
  • Choose Leave club and read the private-access warning.
  • Confirm the leave, or cancel before submitting it.
  • Wait for the current membership check to resolve.

If the leave status is still being checked

An interrupted request can leave the result uncertain. The app offers a pending-leave or leave-status recovery control, with wording such as Check pending leave, Retry leave or Check leave status depending on the current state. Use that control to resolve the same action.

Private club posts remain hidden while the leave is uncertain. That is an access precaution, not proof that the server completed the leave. If BSD says membership changed, review its current state before confirming another action. Do not try to diagnose the result by alternating join and leave.

A later rejoin needs a fresh eligibility check

The free-club membership flow supports joining again when current conditions allow it. The club must still be active and available, your public profile must remain approved, and your account must not be restricted from that club. An earlier membership does not override a club closure or a current access restriction.

If the available free club offers Join club · Free, review the current details and use its confirmation. Wait for a confirmed membership before expecting member posts to return. If the club or your access is unavailable, keep that result unavailable rather than assuming an old membership guarantees entry.

This is a free-community membership workflow. A free join adds no research-credit grant, and this guide makes no promise about billing, paid cancellation, refunds or research balances. Use the current billing information or BSD support for a separate paid-account question.

Illustrative example: leaving during a connection problem

An ordinary member confirms Leave club in an active free club, but their connection drops before the result can be checked. BSD hides private posts and offers a leave-status retry. The member uses that recovery instead of starting a join. Later, if they want to return, they inspect the club again and rejoin only if it is still active and their account remains eligible. This fictional workflow does not describe a real member, club, payment or outcome.

Related questions

Do hidden private posts prove that the leave succeeded?

No. Posts also stay hidden while leave status is uncertain. Use the offered leave-status recovery and the current membership readback to resolve the action.

Can I always rejoin a free club I left?

No. A later join requires an active available club, current account eligibility and an approved public profile, without a club access restriction. Rejoining must be confirmed at that time.

Can a club owner use this to close the club?

No. Ordinary-member leaving and owner club closure are separate actions. Owners and staff must use the role-appropriate controls for their current authority.
