If teams miss the eight-point court change in a deciding volleyball set, is the score reset?
No. In the FIVB indoor 2025–2028 rules, teams change courts without delay once the leading team reaches eight points in the deciding set, with player positions remaining the same. If the change is missed, it is made as soon as the error is noticed, and the score at that moment remains unchanged. A late correction does not reset the set.

The leader’s eighth point triggers the switch
Rule 18.2.2 applies to the deciding set. Once the leading team reaches eight points, the teams change courts without delay and player positions remain the same. This is a change of ends at a score threshold, not a new service-order choice.
If the switch is late, correct it when noticed
If teams have not changed when the leader reaches eight, the rule says to make the change as soon as the error is noticed. The score at the moment of the correction remains the same. The clause does not instruct referees to erase rallies, replay points, or reset the score.
A court change is not a rotation
Rotation and service order are separate topics. The missed-switch remedy addresses where teams change courts and what happens to the current score and player positions. It does not add a new rotation or lineup decision.

A fictional correction at 9–7
In a fictional deciding set, the teams miss the court change when the leader reaches eight. The error is noticed when the score is 9–7. The teams change courts then; the score remains 9–7 and the player positions remain the same. No replay, score reset, time-out, or new service-order choice is created by this correction.

Do teams replay the points after a missed switch?
The cited clause says to change courts as soon as the error is noticed and keep the score at that time. It does not call for replaying points.
Does the score stay at eight when the missed change is corrected?
No. The score at the time the error is noticed and the change is made remains as it is; the example could therefore be later than eight.
Does this decide the format of every deciding set?
No. It explains the FIVB 2025–2028 indoor rule. The sources checked here do not establish adoption or other formats for every competition.
