Why should I check the date of the most recent direct meeting?

The date tells you how far back the latest verified direct meeting occurred and which event it belongs to. Without it, a head-to-head summary can hide whether the comparison is recent or old. The date helps readers assess context, but it does not prove that participants, rules, roles, or conditions are unchanged today. Report the meeting date with its verified source and keep historical evidence separate from current event information.

Attach the date to the verified meeting

A useful record identifies both participants, the event, and when the meeting occurred. Similar names or a remembered matchup are not enough to confirm that two records refer to the same participants. The latest verified date also makes it possible to distinguish a recent comparison from a much older one.

  • Record the event date and the source used to verify it.
  • Keep the participant IDs and event format with the result.
  • State the historical window used to find the meeting.

An old meeting is not a current-event report

Time can separate a historical result from the current event by changes in roster, competition format, role, or other context. A date does not explain those changes; it tells you when the source event occurred so you can avoid presenting it as current.

Keep recent event facts in their own record

Use current event information for current participants, schedule, and conditions. If no recent direct meeting is verified, report that fact only within the captured search window. An old meeting date cannot fill a gap in current data or support a prediction about the next result.

Hypothetical example: label an older meeting with its date

Imagine a synthetic ledger finds one verified direct meeting on date A and a current event scheduled later at cutoff B. The ledger records the earlier date, participant IDs, and event format, then labels the result historical. It does not call that result current form or assume the same participants and conditions still apply. Date A and cutoff B are placeholders, not real event dates.

Does the most recent head-to-head result show current form?

No. It is a dated historical meeting. Use separate current evidence for current participants, form, and event conditions.
