Can an old club notification bypass a block or club restriction?
No. A club notification carries the identity of the activity, not permission to open it. BSD checks current account, club access, source revision, and discussion visibility when resolving a club notification. If a block or club restriction changes access, an older inbox row does not override that decision. A generic unavailable message does not identify who blocked whom.
For BSD readers whose access to a free-club discussion may have changed since an inbox item arrived · Updated
An inbox row is a pointer, not an access token
The notification source is resolved again against the current club and member state. Block controls, membership or role, moderation, and the current discussion revision can affect whether the source remains readable. A notification created earlier does not preserve access after those conditions change.
When a reader opens a club activity item, the app fetches current club access and discussion details and checks that they still match the notification’s identity and revision. If the check fails, the old row does not authorize navigation to protected content.
- Treat the current access decision as authoritative.
- Do not use an old inbox item to bypass a restriction.
An unavailable item does not explain who changed access
A failed open can reflect changed access or source state, but a generic message does not diagnose a particular account or reveal who blocked whom. Nor does this behavior prove that a block hides every unrelated BSD surface.
Use only the current routes and access the app provides. Do not switch accounts, rely on stale content, or infer a private moderation decision from an unavailable notification.
Club access changes after a reply notification
Imagine a fictional member receives an inbox item for a free-club reply. Later, the member’s club access or a relevant block control changes. When the old item is opened, current access and source checks apply; the notification itself cannot restore access or reveal who changed it.

Does an unavailable message prove a specific person blocked me?
