How does NBA tracking distinguish catch-and-shoot attempts from pull-ups?
NBA Stats lists Catch Shoot and Pull Up as separate tracking and shooting categories. Its public glossary names the categories but does not publish a numeric catch-time or dribble-count cutoff for assigning a shot to either one. Record the actual tracking label with the catch time, dribbles and shot location; do not assume that a casual description or one raw detail determines the provider's category.

The provider reports two distinct shot categories
The NBA Stats glossary lists Catch Shoot Field Goal Percentage and Pull Up Field Goal Percentage as separate tracking measures. The NBA shooting dashboard also offers Catch and Shoot as a shot-range selection and presents Dribbles and Touch Time as separate dashboard views.
Those public references confirm that the categories are distinct, but they do not state a universal numeric boundary such as a maximum number of seconds after a catch or a fixed dribble count. Do not add one to the definition.
Keep shot type, timing, dribbles and location together
A catch followed by a shot and a shot taken while moving up from a dribble are different sequences. To compare them, preserve the tracking category assigned to each attempt, then record how long the player held the ball, the dribbles and the location. The dashboard has separate location and shot-range selections, so location alone does not replace the shot-type label.
If a data view lacks the provider's category label, describe only the observed sequence. The public glossary does not support reconstructing the classifier from a time or dribble count alone.
Two fictional tracking-labeled attempts
Hypothetical example: Attempt A is received on the right wing, held for 0.6 seconds, taken with zero dribbles, and labeled Catch and Shoot in the fictional tracking record. Attempt B is received at the same location, held for 2.1 seconds, taken after two dribbles, and labeled Pull Up. The location matches while the tracking labels differ. These example labels are supplied by the fictional record; the seconds and dribbles do not assert an NBA cutoff.

Does the public NBA glossary say how many seconds make a shot Catch and Shoot?
No numeric catch-time cutoff appears in the glossary entries. Use the tracking category as reported rather than inventing a threshold.
Does a shot location determine whether a shot is a pull-up?
The NBA dashboard treats shot range and location as separate selections. Preserve the shot-type label and location as separate fields.
