Why do This week and Winners today in Tail differ from my local calendar?

Tail uses UTC time windows for its week and today summaries, and includes results by their recorded settlement time. The week begins at Monday 00:00 UTC and today begins at 00:00 UTC. A result near either boundary can therefore fall on a different local calendar day or week.

The stored week and day start in UTC

The Tail record stores its time zone as UTC and includes week-start and day-start timestamps. The weekly window begins at UTC Monday; the daily window begins at UTC midnight. The visible This week and Winners today labels follow those stored windows rather than converting them to each reader's local calendar.

The aggregation uses settlement time. A game's start date is not a substitute for the timestamp that determines which Tail period contains its result.

  • For This week, use the UTC Monday boundary.
  • For today, use the UTC day boundary.
  • Check when the result settled, not only when the game started.

Compare Tail's window with your local date

If a result settles close to midnight in your local time zone, its UTC date can be different. The same is true near the Monday UTC start of a week. Tail does not promise local-time personalization for these summaries.

Use the stored UTC boundary when interpreting the label. The UTC definition does not specify when the list refreshes or when an unsettled game will be included; inclusion depends on the recorded settlement time.

Illustrative example: a local Sunday, UTC Monday settlement

Imagine a fictional game that starts on a reader's local Sunday evening but its result settles just after Monday begins in UTC. Tail places that result in the UTC Monday week because settlement time crosses the stored boundary. The local date of the start is not the grouping rule. This is a time-boundary example, not a current result or refresh schedule.

Related questions

Does Winners today use my phone's local midnight?

No local-time personalization is promised by this Tail source. The stored day boundary is UTC, and results are grouped by settlement time.

Does the game's start date determine the week?

The Tail aggregation uses the recorded settlement timestamp for its weekly and daily windows. A game's start date alone does not determine inclusion.
