How is a message request different from an accepted BSD conversation?

A message request is an invitation to start direct contact; it is not the same as an accepted conversation. The recipient's acceptance changes the request into an active conversation, subject to current account, access, and moderation checks. A send receipt can remain pending moderation, so it does not prove delivery or that the recipient read the message. Acceptance for a conversation is also separate from consent to automated AI processing.

For Community members having consented conversations · Updated

A request is still waiting on a decision

The initial contact appears as a request rather than an established exchange. A message receipt may say pending while moderation or access checks are still in progress. Do not treat the request as accepted just because text was submitted or a receipt was returned.

  • Check the current request state before sending follow-up text.
  • Do not treat a pending receipt as delivery, a read receipt, or acceptance.

Acceptance enables a different conversation state

The recipient's acceptance changes a pending request into an active conversation. Subsequent sending and reading remain subject to the current participant, account, moderation, and access rules. If the state is unclear, refresh the current conversation view rather than inferring consent from shared community membership.

Hypothetical example: a pending request is not a live chat

A community member sends a first message and sees a pending receipt. Until the recipient accepts and the current conversation state confirms the change, the sender should not assume the message was delivered, read, or turned into an active conversation. This is a synthetic flow example.

Does accepting a message request enable AI processing?

No. Request acceptance and permission for automated AI processing are distinct consent decisions.
